Today, I had one of those small successes. I completed the first draft of a young readers novel that I have been writing for what seems like an eternity – rather six weeks.  What I recommend you do – if you are working on a project try to work on it only after the children are settled.  I will write in the morning before the children wake it  usually gives me a half hour to an hour of writing time. Once they have had their breakfast and have settled down to watch tv for about a 1/2 hour – I will write for that half hour. Usually after about a half an hour they are viying for my attention. I take a break and work around the house – getting them dressed, playing for a while and tidying up.

After we have all had lunch and the baby has gone down for his nap – my oldest will sit beside me and either watch a 1/2 hour show – read a book or do some other activity beside me either on the couch or at the kitchen table. I’ll write a little more. Then it is time to get dinner ready.

After dinner, my husband will play with the boys for about an hour while I steal away up to our bed room to do a little more writing.

We have an hour or so of family time until it is time to get ready for bed. Once the boys are in bed, I will spend time with my husband before putting in another half hour of writing before bed. Sometimes my husband will work with me because he is very enthusiastic about my writing career.
